Education Minister meets his Waterloo!

A news item in an English daily this morning (15th) carries a report that the Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has said that Mahinda Rajapaksa would be defeated ‘...in a manner worse than how Napoleon Bonaparte suffered at Waterloo, during World War I ...’

When I went to school, many years ago, we learnt that Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo in 1815 and died in 1821. World War I started in 1914.

What price education??

Most newspapers have carried the remarks made by the Education Minister, Mr Akila Kariyawasam, that Mahinda Rajapaksa will meet his Waterloo in Kurunegala.

In one newspaper, he has expanded on these remarks by stating ‘’ During World War 1 , Napoleon Bonaparte, considered invincible, was beaten at the battle of Waterloo.’

I would like to point out to the Hon Education Minister that the battle of Waterloo did not take place during World War 1, but 100 years earlier in 1815, during the Napoleonic Wars.
