Ranil names and shames media

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today named and shamed some media institutions for giving the impression that the public are losing faith in the Government.

Making a special statement in Parliament on the bond issue, Wickremesinghe specifically named The Daily Mirror, The Sunday Leader and a private television station over its recent reporting.
The Prime Minister slammed The Daily Mirror for demanding that the Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran resign over the bond issue.

Wickremesinghe also questioned the owners of The Sunday Leader newspaper demanding to know where they got money from to operate a newspaper.

Wickremesinghe also accused a private television station of carrying out a campaign against him and called for the establishment of an independent broadcasting authority to ensure ethical and fair conduct.

“I will listen to the public and not the Maharajas,” he added.
The Prime Minister also said that some Parliamentarians, including himself, are like angels when compared to some politicians and others.(Colombo Gazette)
