Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has reportedly directed all state and private electronic media not to air the ‘Janapathi Jana Hamuwa’ television programme scheduled for telecast today.
The Elections Commissioner’s directive comes following a complaint made by United National Party MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa.
Rajapaksa has said the Elections Commissioner had said during a meeting that he has written to the Mass Media and Information Ministry and the heads of media not to allow such TV programmes to be aired.

Meanwhile, Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has been quoted in The Sunday Times as saying, “If this particular TV programme comes within the guidelines issued by the Elections Commissioner, the government will not allow its telecast, if not, we will allow it to be aired.”
The governing party has made arrangements to record and simulcast the ‘Janapathi Jana Hamuwa’ this evening.
