Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Mahipala Herath, his son Parliamentarian Kanaka Herath and several other members of his family arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning to leave for Dubai.
Some MPs of the government had already charged that the Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa Province was involved in alleged financial misappropriations and it should be investigated.
The government previously said that it had alerted the airport authorities to prevent people from bribery charges from leaving the country. However, the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Province faced no issues when he arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning.
Mahipala Herath constinously held office as the Chief Minister of Sabaragamuwa for the past several years.
Meanwhile, despite speculations that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa had left the country, the latter took part in a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican embassy this morning.
