External Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today over an alleged coup attempt by the former government on election night.
Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that the Minister had visited the CID office in Fort to file the complaint.
Meanwhile Samaraweera told reporters that he had filed a complaint against the former President Mahinda Rajapakse, former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse and Chief Justice Mohan Peiris alleging they were involved in the attempt to prevent Maithripala Sirisena from taking office.
Sirisena won the Presidential elections last week defeating Rajapakse and Rajapakse was later commended for gracefully stepping down.
The former President had yesterday denied allegations that he had attempted to stage a coup. (Colombo Gazette)
