Jayantha Jayasuriya confirmed as new AG by Constitutional Council

The Constitutional Council yesterday appointed Senior Additional Solicitor General Jayantha Jayasuriya PC as the new Attorney General.

The Constitutional Council met in the Parliamentary Complex with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya presiding.

President Maithripala Sirisena had sent three names, Acting Attorney General/Solicitor General Suhada Gamlath, Additional Solicitors General Jayantha Jayasuriya and Additional Solicitor General Kapila Waidyaratne to the CC, parliament sources said.

The CC had appointed Additional Solicitor General Jayasuriya to the post and informed their decision to the President, sources said.

The CC meeting had been attended Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader R Sampanthan, ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, John Seneviratne MP Vijitha Herath, civil representatives  former Attorney General S.Azeez, Sarvodaya leader Dr A. T. Aryaratne and Dr Radhika Coomaraswamy, sources said.
