Two get beat up for the “crime” of objecting to an MR cutout - Video

Two persons have been hospitalized after attack made by a group of thugs who had crashed in to the house of Mr. Thusitha Weerasinghe in Diwulapitiya today (03) around 2.30am, after he had objected for erecting an illegal cutout in front of his house. This is the 9th act of election violence reported since the announcement of the Presidential Election, the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) says.

According to CaFFE, Mr. Weerasinghe has objected a group of people when they were trying to erect a cutout in front of his house. There a gang 15 men lead by the chairman of the Divulapitiya PS Indika Anuruddha, Nimal Karunathilaka and Asanka had threatened him.

According to Mr. Weerasinghe, the thugs had shouted saying that since this was their government, they were permitted to erect a cutout at any place they like.

The injured persons are said to be the brothers of Mr. Weerasinghe and after admitting to the Diwulapitiya hospital, they have been transferred to Dambadeniya hospital for safety.

According to CaFFE, 9 acts of election violence have been reported so far which includes 4 incidents of using firearms. However, no person has been arrested by the police regarding any of these incidents.
