President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the opposition United National Party (UNP) took an idiot to contest on behalf of the opposition at the Presidential election next month.
Speaking at an election campaign rally in Minuwangoda today, the President said that the UNP is not contesting the election this year the same way it supported former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka for President in 2010.
“The UNP shivers when an election comes and my name is mentioned and so they look for someone and our idiot got caught,” the President said.
The President noted that common opposition Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena had hoppers with him one night and the next day he had joined the opposition.
“These are people who betray others. So how can we give a country to them? I will not give hoppers to anyone. Only coffee. These days UNP members have been banned from having coffee with me,” the President said.
He said that the UNP does not have proper leadership and that UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe only wants to safeguard his opposition leader position.
The President also said that Sirisena needs to take responsibility if he claims the Government made several mistakes over the past 10 years.(Colombo Gazette)
