A large stock of wristwatches with the face of President Mahinda Rajapaksa on it has been given to voters as an inducement free of charge.
The website Lankatruth has reported that the wristwatches have been distributed as a desperate measure after it was brought to the President's notice that he was losing ground in the run up to the January 8 election according to polls monitors.
Meanwhile in an interesting feature, a youth in Hambantota who attended a meeting of Common Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena had cut his hair in the shape of a swan which is the symbol of Maithripala.
