The main opposition United National Party (UNP) today warned of attempts to mislead the public by using Rathnayaka Aarachchige Sirisena, a candidate at the upcoming Presidential election.
UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera said that one attempt by the Government is to announce that Sirisena has decided not contest the Presidential election.
Samaraweera said the Government will look to use Rathnayaka Aarachchige Sirisena to confuse the public over opposition Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Advertisements promoting Rathnayaka Aarachchige Sirisena have already appeared in the newspapers and in those advertisements the wording says that “Mandela is for India, Gandhi for Africa and R.A Sirisena for Sri Lanka”.
Calling him a joker, Samaraweera said that the public should not fall prey to the attempt to make R.A Sirisena look like Maithripala Sirisena.
Rathnayaka Aarachchige Sirisena had filed his nomination papers to contest the election next month as the candidate of the Patriotic National Front.(Colombo Gazette)
