The government is to seek legal redress against 'Pivithuru Hetak' convener - Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera under charges of misusing state funds, criminal breach of trust and forging documents, reliable sources say.
Sources add that the Attorney General has informed the Director of the CID - SSP L.R. Ranaweera to probe into evidence that cites Ven. Rathana Thera has built a personal hermitage building for his private use with state funds amounting to Rs. 4.73 million.
The funds were obtained from the government to build a Centre for Buddhist Affairs, reports say.
The order to conduct a probe was passed last week, sources further say.
Of late, Ven. Rathana Thera has been joining hands with the opposition and raising a strong voice against the Rajapaksa government.
