Three boys studying in a leading Tamil School in Lindula who
plucked wild olive (Weralu) from a tree in a private land were punished by the
land owner.
The owner of the land who caught the three boys, made them
kneel down and tied them together before they were subjected to assault by the
same person. The incident occurred in a land on Nagasena Mawatha, Lindula on
Wednesday afternoon.
The boys had plucked some wild olive on their way home after
school. People in the vicinity intervened and rescued the boys from harassment
and handed them over to Lindula Police. The boys in their statement to the
police said they were subjected to verbal abuse and assault by the land owner
for plucking olives. When Lindula Police arrested the suspect, the latter had
stated that he tied the students to frighten them as they had plucked olives
from his tree without permission. Lindula Police are investigating.
