Speaking to Sri Lanka Mirror its chairman Dr. Nilanga Samarasinghe said that following the investigation it has been revealed that number of candidates are involved in ethanol, drug, betting or casino businesses.
It was only United National Party (UNP), 'Purawasi Peramuna' (Citizen's Front), Ceylon Worker's Congress and Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero who inquired regarding the gathered information.
According to the information they received nominations have been given to individuals who are involved with drugs , he said, emphasising that the public should be mindful when casting their votes.
The political leaders who signed the agreement formulated by the PAFFREL on 12 March had vowed to obtain a certificated from the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board before preparing the nomination papers confirming that their candidates are not involved in such illegal businesses.
