With Input from Lankahrald
There have
been many reports of the lavish expenditure of government ministers in the
past.
The reports
include the spending of over Rs. 100,000 on pairs of shoes and other basic
essentials. Most often these purchases have raised doubts among the public on
how a public representative could spend so much on a normal consumer item with
the monthly pay received for their respective office.
Interestingly,
a majority of thee public representatives have also failed to submit their
assets declarations or have entered false details in the declaration.
However, the
latest extravagance of a governing party member has been reported in the case
of governing party leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
The social
media has highlighted that the shirt worn by Weerawansa at a political talk
show aired on a private televisions channel recently was valued at over Rs.
45,000.
The price of
the Burberry brand shirt worn by Weerawansa has been priced at US$ 344, which
amounts to over Rs. 45,000.
Be that as
it may, Weerawansa who waxes eloquent about Western conspiracies while also
ridiculing the attire of common candidate Maithripala Sirisena, has resorted
spending lavishly on Western brand names.
