The Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Order Mahinda Balasooriya has written to all OICs in police stations in Polonnaruwa District to deploy two police officers for the security of all Members of Divisional Councils in Polonnaruwa District who support Mahinda faction.
As there are no legal provisions to deploy police officers for such duties and also due to the order had not come from the IGP the OICs had ignored the written direction. Now the order has been directed to the DIG in charge of the district.
According to reports an investigation is being carried out against OICs.
However, the IGP is officially not informed regarding the written order or the investigation but the process had been carried out not with the IGPs knowledge say reports.
