Captain caused 'SriLankan' flight to turn back

A SriLankan airlines flight was compelled to turn back to Trivandrum over a misconduct of the captain,  'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns.
The incident which was reported recently, involved a flight from Trivandrum to Colombo.
The captain, named Anupam had decided to test the talents of his co-pilot and shut down one of the flight's two engines while it was midair.
The flight was reportedly transporting 155 passengers when this risky action was taken.
However, veterans of the aviation industry say that as birds fly in high altitude over the Trivandrum region, a disaster could have occurred if the other engine of the aircraft malfunctioned as well.
Reports say that the flight was turned back as it lacked the fuel required to reach Colombo after travelling a considerably long distance with landing gear extended, with the extra drag causing extra fuel burn.
Meanwhile, the insider opinion of SriLankan airlines blame Upul Samarakoon, the company flight instructor for not briefing the pilots properly, reports add.
Samarakoon is a relation of minister Susil Premajayantha.
