Official assaulted for singing National Anthem in Tamil

A Development officer of the Chenkalady Divisional Secretariat has been hospitalised after being attacked by a group of Sinhalese students in the East University, reports say.
The official has been assaulted after singing the National Anthem in Tamil during a function held at the university, reports say.
Speaking to 'BBC Sandeshaya', the assaulted official - Paththukuddiy Suman said that a 03-day exhibition of the Divisional Secretariat's technical unit held at the university, had ended yesterday (16).
The National Anthem was initially played in Tamil and then in Sinhala, he has added.
"After the incident when myself and three others were coming out, we were chased and assaulted by a group of Sinhala students. The other three escaped while i was caught," he has further said.
Noting that he has also lodged a complaint with the Eravur police on this regard, the victim says he can also identify one of his assaulters.
