Parliament elections will be held on August 17, according to the gazette notification signed by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The gazette which has been sent to the Government printer also notes that the new Parliament will convene on September 2.
President Maithripala Sirisena signed the gazette notification dissolving Parliament from midnight tonight.
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya is scheduled to hold a media conference tomorrow (Saturday) where he will announce plans with regards to the polls.
The dissolving of Parliament ends the term of the coalition Government which was appointed following the January 8 Presidential elections.(Colombo Gazette)
