From SL Mirror
UNP Gampaha district MP - Kavinda Jayawardena has obtained a 11-carriage train for 1,000 passengers on Feb. 01 and 02 without making any prepayment, the All Ceylon Railway General Employees’ Union says.
The train had travelled from Ja-ela to Madhu area.
The union had made a formal request to minister of Transport - Nimal Siripala de Silva requesting to hold an inquiry on this regard.
The letter states that the MP had evaded payment, misusing his political might and violating the process that is usually followed when booking a special train.
As a result of this the Railways department had lost a sum of Rs. 1,111,110 and a deposit of Rs. 10,000, the letter adds.
It further says that this is a serious financial fraud.
Kavinda Jayawardena is the son of late MP - Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena.
