Flatly denying speculations of a possible crossover, UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake said this morning that he never had any discussions with any party to cross the aisle of Parliament.
“This is a fabricated story and is rumours are something to go by, this is the 45th time I am trying to cross over to the government,” Karunanayake told Asian Mirror a short while ago.
He accused DNA Parliamentarian Tiran Alles of propagating “lies “with regard to a crossover ahead of a crucial presidential election.
“Tiran Alles and certain elements in our own party are trying to oust me from the UNP and it is nothing but a conspiracy. They are conspiring against me at the behest of the government,” Karunanayake, who was recently appointed as the Assistant Leader of the UNP, charged.
“One must know the true motive behind these claims. They are deliberately targeting front-liners of the opposition and trying to paint a wrong picture about them,” he added.
It was widely speculated in media that several UNP Parliamentarians namely Ravi Karunanayake, Wijedasa Rajapaksa and Mangala Samaraweera were negotiating with the government for a crossover.
Meanwhile party sources told Asian Mirror today that UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera has left for Singapore this morning for a medical check-up.
