Rathana Thera Resigns From Chairman Post Of Divulapitiya DC And Returns Official Vehicle

Jathika Hela Urumaya Parliamentarian and Parliamentary group leader Athuraliye Rathana Thera resigned from his post as the Chairman of Divulapitiya Development Committee a short while ago.
Rathana Thera also returned the official vehicle given to him as the Chairman of the committee.
He made this move just hours ahead of the JHU Central Committee meeting where the party would make a final decision on its support to the government. It is widely speculated that the JHU will decide to leave the government as the government did not agree to implement its proposal on the constitutional amendment.
Political analysts say that Rathana thera’s move can be construed as an early sign of the outcome of the JHU’s Central Committee meeting.
Meanwhile, addressing a public meeting, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said two days ago that the country’s constitution cannot be amended every month, like a “magazine”. It was clear that the President Rajapaksa was directing his criticism at the Jathika Hela urumaya, which is a constituent party of the government.
